Mako Mermaids S2 - Characters Story - Chapter 15

- Zac

As I left the fridge I was confronted by Cam.
“Enoughs, enough what’s going on?” he quizzed.
I looked at him dead in the eye.
“Don’t leave.” I stated sternly as I rushed past him, shouldering past Carly.
Rushing as a sort-of-normal speed and then once outside the Café made a mad dash for the jetty. Of course whilst running made a quick check before diving into the ocean. To which my luck (as always) was too good to be true, was all clear as I did a running dive straight into the ocean like a pro swimmer does (when I did dive in I noticed black ban collar in my hand….Evie’s doing; so I slipped it around my neck as I knew that Evie would need hear my voice for comfort rather than Sirena’s)

As soon as my tail appeared, I kicked it into over drive not stopping for anything. If anything did try to stop me, the uses of my powers were permitted in my eyes…so long as it didn’t draw attention to the supernatural world of magic or water bending. But that was beside the point as with Evie’s newest secret on the line…I will do everything in my power to protect her secret and mine.
“Hang on Evie, those responsible….will taste my fury.” I lipped.
‘Yikes, that more sounded like a movie villain than a hero.’ I thought.
“Or better yet…hang on Evie, you knight in a shining fish tail will save you…..okay that sounds even cornier.” I lipped.

Seriously?! You need better material – Mer
Well you certainly haven’t shown your face in a while - human
Well I like to keep on the down low….so what’s the stitch? – Mer
*raise an eyebrow* watch too much Disney? ….anyway, those mermaids who were in the moon pool last night, have Evie trapped under a pile of pink goop in the fridge in the cafe and I know that someone else is gonna find out about her new ‘ability’ - Human
(His eyes widen) Crap, well you need to book your tail…as I can sense her distress from here; and from it someone else is about to discover it.
Hang on, I thought last time you couldn’t get a read on Evie?
Well since you being around her most of the day; I could and did get a feel of her aura….so now I can sense when she’s in distress.
And you didn’t tell me of this earlier because?
Because I hadn’t master the ability until now.
How convenient….so can you contact her inner ‘mer’?
(He shook his head) Afraid not, as that is still beyond our own limits.

I then pressed the black button on the collar. It rang on once.
“Zac….tell me that’s you?” I could hear her voice vibrating into my neck.
“Who else? As with you sneaky slipping the collar into my hands….since when did you become a ninja?” I teased in a lip.
I could hear her sighing.
“Since knowing you’re gonna fight those mermaids, and you might need my verbal support and they can hear my verbal complaint as well.” She explained.
“Right….I’ll pass on the message. I’m approaching the wave zone.”
“The what?!”
“The Grotto entrance…..I’ve been here a few times so I know my way around.” Before she could ask ‘how do you know how to get there?’
“I know that already, remember? The afternoon before my change… (she paused) better go, might have some company soon.”
Evie then cut-off the com.…..were leaving me with the determination to see this mission till the end.

I continued, to jet until I saw a familiar bit of costal area…..it was a high cliff face, with one entrance cut into the rock face, but it was so deep under water…that only those with fins of a fish attached to a human body a.k.a Mermaids or merman. I then took a dive right down to the sand dunes of ocean, coasting towards the open cave. When level with the opening I then swam right in, I came to a carving right into the rock of the shape of a mini swimming pool….to which I came to a complete stop as with me going too fast could result in me going unconscious (and Evie would not want that).
So I slowed myself down so much that I could easily glide into the entrance pool, I got to the other side underwater and then pulled myself up out of the water (with the water dripping from me, head to merging point)…and then looking up to the stair case leading up to the main grotto area.

I then heaved myself onto the concrete area surround the grotto entrance; it was shaped in a semi-circle with natural rock-carved walls surrounding the pool (of course I’ve been here plenty of time before….just describing for those who are reading this late)….the only thing that stood out was a big anchor an old one with a rope and fishing net adoring the back of this area (I guess collected over the years Rita has spent on land?). Once my whole body, fish and all was heavied onto the concrete area with a huge THUMP. I then sucked in my tail spin and flipped myself over onto the back (leaning against the stair-well), held my right hand over my tail and then began to squeeze my hand as I circled it over as I was evapourating the water off my body.
‘Mermaids….I hope you’re ready for a heavy talking to…though I would prefer to use action rather than words. But knowing Sirena and I’m guessing the girls, are just like Nixie and Layla; thinking that they can get this task over and done with and return back to their pod….yeah right, it’s harder than you think. As with me being in the Moon Pool during destroying the trident and yet I didn’t lose my powers (*shrug*).’ I thought as I dried myself down and back to a land-boy.
I then pounced upstairs, entering the top room coming face-to-face with the strangem-too-seem.


-Evie

While praying and talking with Sirena about the spell the mermaids were using on me; it turns out to be a spell to which needed my essence and then when the ‘goop’ turned me fully into a mermaid….Mimmi then was meant to draw out my ‘mermaid’ essence and meant to turn me back into a ‘full-time’ land-girl.
I rolled my eyes.
“Like that’s gonna work.” I groaned in a whisper.
Sirena smiled.
“Well if you could see the type of magic that Mimmi can pull off...you’ll have more faith that she can make fully-“ Sirena explained before we heard another voice on the other side of fridge door.
And this voice wasn’t Cam’s…. I knew that voice; Carly, crap.
“Do you mind I need strawberries?” I heard her say.
“There none in there.” Cam defended the door.
“I was in there 30 mins ago and was plenty.” Carly argued.
“A lot can happen in 30 mins.”
“*groans* what’s up with you today.”

I looked up.
“Someone’s coming in.” I panicked….even thought I could already here their voices outside, seriously they have volumes issues.
“I’m on it.” Sirena whispered as she touched my shoulder.
The she crossed her left arm over her chest, making herself invisible. But with her touching my I shoulder, I guess it was supposed to do the same thing as well…but it wasn’t working, I looked up to her.
“I’m still here.” I whispered.
Then sec’s later Sirena then turned herself visible.
“This stuff must be blocking my powers.” She concluded.
I then leaned my head back onto the cold hard fridge floor; great so not only am I stuck like this, but now it can block mermaid powers….great this stuff must be an open invitation to have the whole world come and observe my fish tail.
I groaned even more.
“What if I’m stuck like this forever.” Saying the worst that can happen to me as I still had my head facing towards the ceiling of the fridge
“Don’t yourself let think like that…I’ll find a way to fix this, I promise.” Sirena looked deep into my soul; I’m guessing trying to find the most appropriate calming words.
‘But so much for….’ I thought as I leant my head back on to the hard ground and let out a frustration groan.

“IS Evie crying?!” I could hear Carly on the other side.
‘Crap, I totally forgot about her….now she really knows I’m in here; way to mouth, you been sooo helpful today.’ I groaned in thought.
As I was groaning of my situation, the conversation on the other side of the fridge door was intensing….as I could hear Carly practically bursting a vein. I needed out of this and I need out of it now more than ever….as knowing Carly; she’ll be more determined to find me outside on the other of the fridge door.  And hearing Cam barely hanging on with his out white-lies….it’ll be only a matter of time before I’m busted.


- Zac

I burster into the Grotto, seeing both Mimmi and Ondina hovering around a glass container with the same pink goop swirling around the middle….so it’s true.
“Whatever you’re doing stop it!” I demanded.
Ondina looked up at me and just gave me the cold look.
“Don’t you want your girlfriend restored?” She asked plain as day.
I then stomped down the grotto to the middle of it; to where they were.
“You are just bearing her under a pile of…..of pink goop….stop it right now!” I continued with my demands as her last question didn’t mean anything to me, if it means exposing her a mermaid.
Mimmi too also gave me the cold look as her hands were like in the famous Dragon Ball pose (and yes I did read-watch some of the manga and anime….but not a huge fan).
“The spell has to run its course.” She said coldly.
I took half a steep back as I calmed myself down.
“Look, it’s not working…okay, Evie is stuck inside the café’s cool room and any minute, someone is gonna walk in there and see she has a tail.” Laying down the truth on the line. “Doesn’t that worry you?”

They both were silent and then Ondina raised an eyebrow.
“How do we know you’re telling the truth? You could be making this up, like you destroying the trident could be made up?” Ondina quizzed.
I sighed.
“Does it matter? Our secret is out to be exposed and your just sitting here….aren’t you gonna do anything about it?” I quizzed her back laying my hands on the table.
“’Our secret?’” Ondina huffed as she folded her arms and walked right up to me. “You’re not even a real merman….you got your powers by accident and do you think a ‘half-breed’ merman has the right to demand from us?”
I was stunned; true I am a half-breed….but does that really matter? When all the hard work their pod has done to keep their existence a safe-secret from land-people. No it’ll all go all go down the drain….all that effort wasted.
I then got right up in front of their faces.
“Does it matter? Seriously does it matter that your pod’s hard work of keep mermaid’s existence a secret, for all these centuries. And now you’re willing to throw it all away just for turning my girlfriend back to normal…yes, I would like her back to normal. But I’m not willing to risk your safety or any other mermaid living on land, just because of Evie.” I lectured them with heart and soul.
I could see Ondina turning back to Mimmi who was just as stunned as a jellyfish…this really struck a chord with them….question is: how will they react?


-Evie.

Great, just great…me just moment away from being reveal as a freak of nature to my best friend; while Cam’s flapping mouth is not doing anything to slow or even stop her from getting past him and force opening the fridge door.
“I’m doom.” I whispered to Sirena. “I’m seriously doomed….I might as well accept it, I’ll be the freak of nature for the whole town to gawk at.”
Sirena shook her head with a slight giggle.
“What? …what’s so funny?” I demanded.
“Sorry, it’s just that you have so little faith in your boyfriend? So, you don’t trust that he will stop Ondina and Mimmi from breaking this spell trapping you here?”
“Wha-….of course I do-“
“Well it doesn’t sound like it….you sound like a walrus, stubborn and only willing to look out for themselves only.”
I blushed.
“Wha…I’m hell not like a walrus-“
“Then where’s your trust? Your pride?”
This struck a chord….where had it all gone? Where had my pride of myself gone to?

I tried to shake my head and stay in control of my emotion’s…but the faster I tried to sweep it aside it raced right back to the frontental of my head.

Trust her - Mer
Huh? Wh-who, who are you? –human
*giggle* someone willing to saving your scales….my name is not important.
But-but…why are you here? Inside my head?
I’m not in your head….im in your physical being.
Huh….what the hel-
Can’t you just focus on one subject: getting out of this situation?

Okay that was weird….was that all in my head? Or just my imagination? since I’m freaking out so much. Yeah, that must be it; I’m freaking out the on the inside.
“-Vie? Evie, you still with me?” a voice called out.
I snapped out of it and mentally shook my previous experience like a bad memory. I looked up to still see Sirena hovering above me.
“Evie? Hey you still with me.” Sirena panicked as I feel her shaking my shoulders as I finally broke from me inner thoughts.
“S-sorry…just, lost in thought.” I confessed.
Sirena smirked and raised an eyebrow.
“Well, we have another slight problem...” Sirena started.
“What? Besides the fact of my best friend is on the other side of the door?” I quizzed completely freaking out.
Sirena jestered towards the door, as I think I heard another voice on the other side of the door…..it sounded like Erik. Crap, that makes 2 more who will know of my freak-of-nature side of me.
But Sirena for all of a sudden didn’t look worried as she just raised her hand towards the door.

“What are you doing?”  I whispered.
She grinned at me.
“Using my powers, using a gravity pull to keep the door closed.” She boasted.
I tilted my head a bit, impressive.
“Impressed?” she raised her eyebrows at me.
I smirked.
“Very, though I do hope Zac hurray’s this up.” I groaned under my breath.
“Oh he will, believe me when I say this….Zac has a very good logic when it to dealing with the unknown and knowing the right thing to say.”
I so hope she’s right.


-Zac

Even after my bold statement; they wanna do this ‘magic trick’ and put at risk ‘our’ secret from coming out into the open about mermaids really existing and jeopardising their pods centuries of hard work to keep it from Land-people.
“So you’d risk your whole pod, just the sake of turning Evie to normal?” I stated sternly as a last bit to get some sense into their thick skulls.
“Maybe he’s right.” Mimmi finally spoke up turning to Ondina.
“We don’t answer to land-boys.” She stated as if she were stating the American policy about not dealing with terrorists.
‘Right….so they do have thick skulls, time to pull out the big stocks.’ I thought as I took a steep back.
“Stop or I’ll make it stop.” I stated as I raised my hand towards the container.
Ondina instantly raised her hand towards me.
“Don’t.” she stated coldly.
‘Oh, but I will.’ I thought as I reached deep for my ‘mer’ power.

You got any ideas of how to stop them? – Human
Bold move, considering you don’t even like my opinions – mer
*groan* when have I’ve ever said that?
*raising an eyebrow* do you really want me to answer that?
Whatever, can you think of anything to stop the spell on Evie?
Hang on a moment…..there, aim to disperse the goop liquid in the container; it contains water.
*grin* I like you’re thinking.

I then aimed my powers towards the container and did as mer suggested: I then reshaped the goop into filing up the whole container….making it all but unusable, well for them that is.

Now what’s step 2?
If the goop stays like this and you start to boil it, the container will burst its banks at the scenes…causing the liquid to burst like a hot gizzard. Be advised to take a step back.
*salute* Will do.

I then did as Mer instructed, since Ondina and I were in a power battle as with her trying to outwit me and Mimmi still using the same pose as before to try and bring the goop back under her control….not gonna work, as with 2 working together. Nothing will ever beat us, never.
And then a fling of my wrist and the liquid did as Mer described it, like a gizzard. I did take a huge leap back as the liquid came bursting out the container. Mimmi and Ondina were taken back as I’m guessing they were trying to use their powers to defend themselves….too late suckers.

Then after about 5 secs they feel backwards, I could see a tail fin flipping up in the air, meaning they had changed into their true forms. I on the other hand had to feel down my clothes as I sometimes don’t really trust Mer completely, once the all clear was given I ventured around the table to see both Mimmi and Ondina lying flat on their backs with their tails out for the whole world to see.

“Now, who’s the king.” I boasted.
They both boasted themselves on to their elbows.
“Don’t rub it in; you’re not the king of anything.” Ondina huffed.
I then leant against the table with my arms folded.
“Try that stunt again, and this will be the least of your problems.” I said in a cold tone as I then picked myself up and walked out of the grotto with a beaming pride in my confidence to once again trust Mer as he did say my GF’s life.

You usually hear my inner thoughts-
Got ya? I did hear you
*rolling eyes* seriously you use comedy right now….I’m more worried about Evie’s condition; I mean has me disrupting the goop has changed her back?
I can sense her distress level plummeting to normal….your interference has work.
Phew…let’s go and see her


-Evie

Once my human body was miracle returned to normal and as I right on queue Sirena lowered her hand and Carly practically burst into the fridge.
“Are you okay?” Carly instantly asked as I had just gotten to my feet.
“…Yeah…fine.” I answered as this encounter was a really close call.
“Cam said you and Zac were fighting.” Carly continued.
I looked to Cam, seriously….were so close you dare-
“It was bad. That’s what you said.” Cam interrupted my cursed thought.
Then gave a discreet quick nod.
‘Go along with it.’ He face was telling me.
“Yeah; worst fight ever.” I lied going along with Cam’s statement.
“What? Why didn’t you tell me?” Carly quizzed.
“it was…nothing; really I overacted…(shrug of the shoulder) decided to forgive him.”
Cam rolled his eyes.
“That’s great; you and Zac are a pin-up couple.” Carly smirked as she looped my arm over my shoulder and walked me out of the cool room (fridge).

As soon as I walked out of the fridge I saw Zac running in completely out of breath. He came up to me hugging me around the neck.
“I’m glad you’re alright.” He whispered into my ear.
I hugged him back as I looked towards Carly to whom Zac has pulled me from.
‘See, forgiven’ I lipped to her.
Carly just smirked and rolled her eyes
Zac then released me from his grip as he took me by the hand.
“We’ll talk this over my house.” He whispered as he dragged me out the café.
I was about to protest as I still had my shift to get to, but looking outside to see the sky was a light orange colour….seriously I’d been stuck in fish form all day? What a waste of a day.
But I guess who couldn’t argue, as with me still getting out of there in one piece and no one else finding out about my fish form.

I let Zac drag me to his house, by the time we got there it was pretty much Dark already. Zac had a plate of food already in the fridge, filled with seafood and fruit. Zac plunked me on the couch and asked me to relay the events after he’s left.

I relayed them as I sat back in a sigh.
“I would like to officially proclaim this, as the worst day of my life.” I announced.
“Well it’s over and you’re okay.” Zac added in.
I smirked.
“Thanks to you.” I admitted.
I then sat myself up and reached over to the plat and grabbed myself a green grape and popped it into my mouth and then sat back in the couch. I chewed on the grape as I then smoothed my right hand over Zac’s leg.
“Have you noticed it yet?” Zac spoke up after a few seconds of silence.
I finished chewing on my grape before I answered him.
“Noticed what?” I quizzed.
“All this fresh crayfish right in front on you…and all you want is fruit.” Zac concluded.
‘Wait so does this mean? ….does this means? ’ I thought thinking of the most positive thought I’ve ever head of this day.
I then sat up in the couch.
“Do you think this mean I’m cured?” I quizzed with a bubbly personality.
Zac shrugged his shoulder.
‘Yeah big help.’ I thought as I sat myself up more to the edge of the couch.
Ass of water right in front of me, I then got my right hand and drippled my fingers into the glass….i then pulled my hand out with a beaming smile on my face.
“Whoa..” I celebrated.
But I was short lived, as the same tingle folded my legs together causing me to flop sideway and collapse onto the ground with my tail fin flicking all up in Zac’s face. Zac cringed his face up and then adjusted his seating, so he was facing me
“I guess you stuck like that a little while longer.” He announced.
“You think?” I gave him attitude as I sat myself up on my elbows.
“Hey, be grateful you’re not still stuck under that goop.” Zac huffed.
“I am grateful.” I protested.

Zac smirked.
“Of course you are…you’re the most beautiful half-breed ever.” He stated kneeling beside me.
“Half-breed? What’s that?” I quizzed.
“It’s what we are….were not fully human or fully merfolk; were half-breed of each.” He explained.
I leant my head back on the floor.
“Great, just great.” I groan, I looked up at Zac as he was hovering over me. “Anytime you wanna get me out of this.”
Zac put his finger to his chin.
“I don’t know, I kind like this way.” Zac teased.
“And risk your parents seeing me…no thanks, I’ve had enough time looking like a fish.” I groaned.
Zac smiled as he held out his right hand over me, and then clenched his fist and doing slow circles around both my human half and fish fish.
“Ummm…what the heck are you doing?” I quizzed.
“Evapourating the water off your body….I picked this trick up after my 2nd full moon; I’ll teach you it, it’s really helpful when I’m not around and you suddenly change.” He explained.

And I can saw within 20-30 secs my full normal human body was back in my possession.
“Thanks a lot.” I smiled as I got up and walked to the door facing him with a smile. “I would like to learn that trick from you….but in the meantime, my dad might me wondering of where I am.”
“Sure, stay safe….I’ll see you out on the Marina.” He stated.
I turned to him as I had on hand on the door edge as I just opened it.
“Got it.” I stated as i walked out.


- Mimmi

Morning, what a rough day yesterday was…so close from having one more problem out of our hairs. But of course, me still being the near the middle-higher level of potion making….I blew the whole thing out of the water by a mere half-breed. Can this get any worse?
Just then an unfamiliar brown hair glided through the moon pool and popped up on Sirena’s side of the pool….it was Evie.
“What are you doing here?” Ondina instantly asked as she turned to acknowledge us.
“I was out for a swim and decided to drop by.” She stated in a smile tone.
I could see Sirena smiling as she reached over to Evie and placed her hand on Evie’s shoulder.
“I’m so glad you okay.” Sirena smiled.
“I am now.” Evie smiled back looked towards Sirena and then turned back to use.” No thanks to you 2 and that stunt with the goop.”
Her tone went all cold, wouldn’t blame her for being made at us….after all we put her through yesterday.
“Do you want to lose your tail or not?” Ondina bursted out with attitude.
“We were only trying to help you.” I added in.
Evie gave us another cold look.
“Well it didn’t work, so don’t do it again.”
Sirena looked at before looking at Evie.
“You have my word.” Sirena spoke up.
‘Yeah right….’ I thought rolling my eyes.
“I want there’s as well.” Evie gave us a stern look. “Next time you try something….tell me about it, and we’ll work on it together.”
I was silent, as to which it sounded reasonable.
“Why should we?” Ondina spoke up giving her attitude.
Evie smirked.
“You want me to keep your secret, don’t you?” She quizzed.
Both Ondina and I turned to look at each other and then turned back to her plastering on a smile.

“Sure, sounds fair.” I spoke up as I swam up to Evie and hugged her.
Evie hugged me back looping her arms around my neck.

Struck a deal with a half-breed to keep quiet….how bad could that be?
